Sometimes the needle skips on a track, and the record repeats itself…
Similarly, we also seem caught in an endless loop of repetition. Those of you who have been keeping an eye on developments will already know the score, but the truth is there isn’t much news to update you.
Although there are indications the current closing time of 01:00 will be extended by an hour at the forthcoming review, dancefloors remain off limits. We feel that as equally as you.
The good news is, there appears to be a genuine concerted effort to extend the season. Already several businesses have announced plans to open later than usual and airlines are adding extra flights. That extension in itself, might give late season clubbing a lifeline.
If you still want to experience music, albeit in a seated setting, check-out our party calendar.
Here’s this month’s tracks we’re longing to hear on a sound system soon.
Reinier Zonneveld & HI-LO | Balearic Mornings | Filth On Acid | 6 August
Maybe it’s an effect of the pandemic, but lots of producers have been referencing the classic Trance sound as of late. After Ben Hemsley’s Bebé Música last month, this time Filth On Acid boss Reinier Zonneveld and Oliver Helden’s under his HI-LO moniker are next to get euphoric.
The Dutchmen pulled an all-nighter together on a previous visit, staying up late enough to catch sunrise somewhere on Ibiza’s east coast, or so the story goes. Bold chords and autotuned vocal.
Disclosure | Seduction | Disclosure | 20 August
Starting this month’s chart is a duo who dropped new music every night for a week earlier in August. Brothers Guy and Howard are back and they mean business. Our favourite from the Never Enough EP is Seduction.
We were lucky enough to catch Disclosure’s headline performance at Reading last weekend - goosebump-inducing. To top that, they've just announced a string of London dates for early 2022, including returns to Heaven, Brixton Academy and Alexandra Palace. Consider us seduced!
Damon Lee & Darlyn Vlys | Apocalypsis (Perel Remix) | Correspondant | 27 August
Perel is an artist we always get excited about. She’s somebody whose Circoloco dates we instinctively keep an eye-out for. Featuring an enormous moment of release, here she is remixing Apocalypsis for Damon Lee & Darlyn Vlys - real end-scene euphoria.
Cody Currie & Eliza Rose | Flame | Shake Records | 26 August
Some jazz-infused House, next, as the pairing of producer Cody Currie and vocalist Eliza Rose once again turn heads with Flame.
Eliza’s signature vocal hooks are the ideal foil to Currie’s beatwork. Together, they join the dots between the classic and modern in a studio partnership that continues to grow from strength-to-strength.
The Martinez Brothers & Fuego | P.A.P. (Club Mix) | Everybody Knows | 13 August
Combining two of their loves, House music and Latin rap, The Martinez Brothers return with P.A.P. Here Chris & Stevie’s saucy beat is paired with the slick swagger of Dominican rapper Fuego, to create a sparse, percussion-led groover.
We just know that their fans will eat this up. In Ibiza-related news, the Bros’ dates at Ushuaïa’s Palmarama continue to prove popular. Head here to request your table.
Becky Bird | Avocados | House Of Now | 20 August
Long earmarked as an emerging talent on London’s DJ scene, Becky Bird has now released her debut single as a producer. Avocados lands on House Of Now and comes equipped with a hard-hitting bassline and a resounding horn in the breaks.
Jo Poole | Final Calling | Say What? | 27 August
From House to Techno, another newcomer making leaps and strides is Manchester-based Bristolian Jo Poole. Already catching the attention of UK Techno bigwigs, Jo’s latest EP is packed with hard-armoured dancefloor tracks.
The title track combines rumbling drums and pulsating synths to hypnotic effect.
Brina Knauss | Births | Frau Blau | 27 August
Guy Gerber, Damian Lazarus, Solomun - it's fair to say that Brina Knauss comes highly rated. Now the Slovenian DJ/producer seems to be moving into a higher gear with her latest release. Gorgeous pads elope with a snaking bassline in what might be the sleeper hit of summer.
It’s rare that we could potentially post three versions of the same track, but Emanuel Satie and David Mayer’s remixes are both killer too.
Daniel Klose | Beyond Beauty | ASTIR Recordings | 20 August
ASTIR is a label we’ve been hoping to feature for a while, and now an opportunity has arisen we feel we can’t overlook.
Hailing from Hamburg, Daniel Klose is the city’s next superstar producer in the making. Another track made with sunrise in mind, perhaps, we can feel the warm glow emitted. Daniel Klose has painted a picturesque soundscape with Beyond Beauty.
We understand there's already another double-sided EP ready and waiting.
Andrea Oliva | Final String | All I Need | 20 August
Closing out this month’s chart, Ushuaïa resident Andrea Oliva tugs at the heart strings with the launch of his new label, All I Need.
Radiating warmth, Final String has been produced specifically for the dying moments of a party. Just listen to those cinematic strings - epic in every sense. The result is something that Hans Zimmer or Howard Shore would be proud of.
Enough to bring a tear of joy to your eye.
We'll be back in a month’s time with our favourite releases from the next 30 days.
