Cala Conta beach (Platges de Comte)

With three beautiful beach areas to explore and a dazzling backdrop, Cala Conta always feels like a discovery.

Location: 15 minutes drive from San Antonio
Facilities: Day beds, parasols, non-smoking beach (please respect this!), restaurants, bars, beach boutique, lifeguards, access for the disabled
Size: 800 metres long, 15-30 metres wide
Getting there: Reached by car, bus, taxi or ferry in summer. During the summer season, ferries depart regularly from San Antonio harbour and from various stops along San Antonio Bay. Or you can catch the bus at the bus station in San Antonio or along the bay road (find timetables here). There is a taxi rank right at the beach. Parking is not possible directly at the beach as the access is shut with a barrier. There is a large space designated for parking, on your left before the barrier. Don't park along the road even if many other cars do so - it is prohibited, the police control and give out fines regularly.

The beach

For many, Cala Conta needs no introduction. For those who've not yet experienced these shores, you're in for a very special treat. Cala Conta has fabulous views of the little islands dotted near Ibiza's coastline, beautiful turquoise waters and several different areas to explore, making it one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

There are two small stretches of sand, one backed by a rocky coastline, the other by sand dunes. The shallow water is safe for bathing and as clear as a swimming pool. Be careful when swimming in the open sea; there are very strong currents here - so even more experienced swimmers should avoid aiming for the island offshore.

In the high season, the beaches are very popular, so come either in the early morning or later in the afternoon. The areas of sand are only small, but the water is so inviting, you'll spend most of your time there anyway. The many rocky outcrops also make Cala Conta an interesting place for snorkelling.

Cala Conta is also one of the best beaches to catch the sunset from, with crowds gathering on land and boats dropping anchor further out to see the soothing spectacle.

Beach bars and restaurants

The two main beaches are separated by the beach restaurant Sunset Ashram, which has panoramic views from its exposed position, and a creatively designed framework which mimics the rocks on which it sits. In the evenings, Sunset Ashram hosts various DJs to play during the sunsets.

Walking along the cliffs on the right-hand side, you reach two restaurants with stunning views: both of them are great spots for fresh seafood. If you want to eat there for lunch, or later for sunset, we recommend reserving your table already when you arrive at the beach.

Spotlight tip

Spotlight tip: A third and smaller cove, called Cala Escondida (the hidden cove), is at the far west end. You can reach it from the top of the cliffs by steps hewn into the rock. It is popular with nudists and has a small chiringuito, one of the original beach bars of the island, serving healthy food. There's also an eco-toilet here.

Nearby hotels and villas

The resorts of San Antonio bay and San Antonio are only a short drive away; at these locations, there is a wide range of hotels and apartments.

Only a 20-minute stroll from Cala Conta, the 7Pines Resort Ibiza offers the ultimate in luxury with spectacular sea views from a clifftop position. The spa, restaurants and bars also welcome non-hotel clients.

Or book a private holiday villa, which is an interesting option for larger families and groups.
