Ibiza Coronavirus Update (20) 4-6-2021

The end is in sight.

The easing of restrictions continues and Ibiza and Formentera will remain at Level 1 (situation in control) of the Govern Balear’s classification. This week sees another important step towards normalisation, with the rest of Spain, as the night-time curfew has finally been lifted. At last!

There has been a slight increase on Covid cases here on both islands over the past few days, of around 10 cases per day, but it has not resulted in a rise in hospitalisations. There are still around 100 active cases on the islands, with only 10 of those cases requiring hospitalisation.

The 14-day cumulative total for Ibiza is now at 36 per 100k population, meaning there is a very low risk of infection. It is still significantly lower than the rest of Spain, which now stands at 132 cases per 100k.

Most importantly, there have been no fatalities here for over 8 weeks now.

Vaccination

As the flow of vaccines continues to increase, more of the local population is being protected against the virus. All island residents over the age of 50 have now been offered a jab, with over 1000 people per day receiving their doses. The majority of key front-line workers, the elderly and vulnerable have been fully immunised.

Rules

With the night-time curfew lifted and the limitation on the size of social gatherings annulled by the Supreme Court, there are still some restrictions on the opening hours of communal premises, though these too have been reduced. The latest set of regulations will remain in force until 20 June.

Travel

Spain has opened the doors to travellers from other parts of Spain, the European Union and Schengen zone, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Sadly however, at the time of writing, the UK Government has decided not to add Spain or the Balearic Islands to the Green List of countries for British tourists, meaning they will still be required to quarantine on their return home.

All travellers to the Balearic Islands have to fill out a Health Check Form. Find detailed information about travelling in English here.

The situation is constantly evolving, with new announcements on a virtually daily basis. Always make sure you check the latest travel advice given by your own country’s Foreign Office before travelling.
