Review: Santos and Tropicana hotel opening parties

Art deco Miami, ultra modern Ibiza and plenty of pink champagne.

Two of Playa d'en Bossa's freshest dens are open and ready to receive, with both Santos and new sister hotel Tropicana holding suave and sophisticated opening parties recently.

The Saturday double-header began at Tropicana, where guests were invited to prowl around for the first time in the angular, art deco watermelon of a hotel. Hot pinks and lime greens abounded, an inviting strip of pool separating guests from DJ, who was spinning party-friendly house and disco from his water-bound perch. There were plenty of kitsch little details to bring this new building to life, with flamingoes dotted around the exterior, an old fashioned juke box in the lobby (the song selections passed the test) and a very much alive parrot greeted guests as they arrived. There was really positive and relaxed feel as we all sipped our free champers in the sun and dipped our toes in the pool, and as the air began to cool, thoughts turned to Santos, and we made the arduous three minute journey to the Playa d'en Bossa beachfront to complete our night at the flagship hotel.

Over at Santos the energy was definitely already on the night shift, with well dressed guests tightly packed around the pool, pumping tech house beats soaring out over the quiet Playa d'en Bossa sands in front, and drinks and dialogue flowing freely. As darkness fell, the Santos building came alive with projection mapping stars tripping the light fantastic across its facade. With only a clear perspex low wall separating guests from the beach, the clean, modern and slick exterior of Santos contrasted beautifully with the deserted sands and lapping waves; Santos is an incredible place to stay - and not such a bad spot for a party either!
