Staff picks: Lissy's five parties to look forward to in 2023

Our roving reporter selects her highlights from this year's party calendar.

During summer, you can find pretty much every respected DJ in the world playing on Ibiza at some point. All of the clubs have a full seven day programme in place. Where else do you find this? Short answer: nowhere.

What I learned last summer, is that regardless of how much I love it, going out five or six times a week isn't the most sustainable approach to island life. This year, I'm carefully selecting which parties I attend through their line-ups.

Our party calendar makes this an effortless task, making planning and research easy peasy. Though too many to mention in reality, here's a snapshot of five not to miss this summer.

Melé

Melé | FISHER | Hï Ibiza | 26 July

Melé is an amazing producer, impeccably talented DJ and a friend I feel lucky to have been blessed with. Although I've seen him play multiple times in different venues across the UK and Ibiza, I say without hesitation he's a DJ I can never get enough of.

His energy behind the decks is infectious. To see him play at DJ Mag's world's number one club before FISHER is going to be epic. Two of electronic music's most loveable characters playing in the Theatre in one night? I better start working out now in preparation.

Side note: let's hope it's a Wednesday where Chloe Fisher AKA The Kitchen Queen takes over The Wild Corner! Number one fan girl over here and this would just top off the night for me.

Loco Dice | Music On | Pacha

Marco Carola, Loco Dice & Yaya | Music On | Pacha | 28 July

Three of my personal favourites all rolled into one night, what more could you ask for? I've been a fan of Marco Carola and Loco Dice since my teen years, while Yaya is a more recent fav. I'm glad to see him getting booked for these huge gigs, as he is such a talented DJ and producer.

The vibes are always immaculate on a Friday at Music On and their sounds will compliment each other two-fold. FISHER has also reeled in the two artists to join him in Hï Ibiza's Theatre in September.

Skepta | ANTS | Ushuaïa | 12 August

I caught Mas Tiempo mastermind Skepta at The Beams in London when he made his Cuttin' Headz debut in December, then again alongside The Martinez Brothers at Hï Ibiza. Having grown up listening to Skep as a Grime artist, it's been super cool to watch his transition to being a DJ. I take pleasure in dissecting his track selection and trying to suss out his House sound.

I am keen to see how and if he will fine-tune or change his set from playing with the TMB, to playing at ANTS in an outdoor venue. He has great backing from Loco Dice with him stating that "It's like looking in a mirror" when describing Skepta as an artist.

I'm here for his new direction, for sure.

Bonobo by Grant Spanier

Bonobo | Pyramid | Amnesia | 13 August

An unexpected move from Amnesia as they stray away from their signature Pyramid line-up, with a special guest appearance from Bonobo. When I think of seeing him live, I always envision myself in the crowd of a UK festival, never in a large-scale club and certainly not on Ibiza.

I'm intrigued to see which direction he'll go with his sound, as Pyramid is sonically quite Minimal and underground. Will he be playing his own stuff? If I hear even the first few bars of Kerala or Rosewood, I'll go berserk. I love every single one of his productions in a myriad of ways.

Robbie Doherty

Robbie Doherty | PIV Ibiza | Cova Santa | 19 September

Robbie Doherty is a Belfast DJ/producer making waves with slick productions and a forward-thinking sounds. Best known previously for his 2020 track Pour The Milk, I reckon he could well eclipse it with his latest release on PIV, It's My Beat. He is a valued member of the Prunk's label entourage and will be joining the party in September.

With a sound that is influenced by '90s House and Disco, he puts his innovative spin on each record, making it an instantly recognisable Doherty track. This year alone, he has released on Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound, Shall Not Fade and Atlantic Records.

The exciting young artist's ever-evolving style of music production is really beginning to mature as he progresses through the industry. 2023 is looking to be the most exciting year to date.
