Lissy Lü takes a trip | One night in Magaluf

An impromptu visit to our sister Balearic island of Mallorca for shopping, eating and sampling the nightlife at BCM.

Top raver, booth infiltrator and our very own AM to PM girl, Lissy Lübeck is back for summer 2023, sharing her thoughts, experiences and inner musings from Ibiza's clubland. A year older, but a year wiser? Probably not.

If you heard it from anybody else, you'd dismiss it as hyperbole, but Lissy Lü's real life is like that.

Partying as a profession is a hard life... but somebody's got to do it!

Tuesday 1 August

Despite partying hard at Radio 1 weekend these past weekend, today was full steam ahead. The clubbing team plus a whole entourage took to Ibiza's sister island of Mallorca for a night out on the Magaluf strip.

Who would've thought it? The term "busman's holiday" had never been more apt. Our good friend Danny Howard had invited us all over for his weekly residency, Nothing Else Matters. The last leg of my sister and G's trip, we had to make it a night to remember.

Even though the flight was barely in the air 20 minutes, I managed to squeeze in a power nap, which was well received after DJing on the Sunset Strip and Amnesia last night. After landing, we headed directly to Melia South Beach hotel, which is located on the outskirts of Magaluf.

To our surprise, considering the rep that Magaluf has, the hotel was so nice! I'm not a big fan of large hotel complexes with family pools and kids running around, but I really enjoyed this one. There was so much going on, with three different pools, salsa lessons, water aerobics, kids' animation team and Nikki Beach just next door.

I think we needed three of four days there just to take it all in.

At the pool, we met Danny's best friend Alex, his wife Lauren and their two kids for a couple hours of fun in the sun. Obsessed with babies, I was in my element splashing around with three year old Miles and cuddling newborn Liberty.

The boys were being typical boys, drinking beers in the pool and getting told off and challenging each other to see who could swim the length of the pool without coming up for air for longest. It was an epic fail from both Rich and Steve. Poor effort guys.

For dinner, we hit SISO Beach, which was really great vibes with a DJ, singer and playa views. It's safe to say that we all ate far too much. I ordered steak and chips, mac and cheese and sauteed veg. I couldn't have consumed more carbs if I tried. It was delicious but I struggled to move for about an hour afterwards. Not the ideal way to prepare for a night on the razz.

Birthday boys

Danny and Alex were surprised with birthday cake, as they both turned 36 a few weeks ago. We also met Gordon, one of the promoters at BCM. He was just as Danny had described - a little loopy, but a top cockney geezer and his missus Cleo was equally as off-the-wall, but lovely.

During dessert, Danny received a text saying that Peter Crouch and Jamie Carragher would be attending the night. Everyone was ecstatic. I didn't think it was possible to see adults more excited kids for Christmas. Beginning to see a theme developing about the boys' maturity levels.

Before heading to BCM, it was time to sample what the Magaluf strip was all about.

Having been to Malia in Crete when I was 17, I knew what these thoroughfares of debauchery tend to entail. Lined with kebab shops, piercing studios, strip joints, bars and shining neon signs, the strip was as predicted. Embarrassingly, we stood out as the oldest group there. Oh well! We (and by we, I mean primarily Danny, Steve, Rich and Alex) were reliving our mispent youth.

At the end of the strip, we stopped at Temple bar for a quick drink and shot of tequila rose before heading into the club.

En route, me and Rich spotted a Cascada billboard. She was performing a live PA that night! A childhood favourite of mine, unfortunately she was playing at the same time as Danny. (I was a bit torn as to which one to go to, I won't lie!)

I've seen photos of BCM before and heard so much about it, so I was so intrigued to see what it was like in person. As I imagined, it was like a miniature Vegas nightclub, with sputnik chandeliers, patterned carpet, VIP booths and OTT dancers everywhere.

It was a completely sold out night, as FISHER was flying in on a private jet from Ibiza especially to headline the party.

Me and G were outside when he happened to arrive, and wow, talk about rolling out the red carpet. I don't think even FISH himself expected the reception he got. When the crowd spotted his red Prada bucket hat and his designer shades, he couldn't be missed.

With Danny handing over at 02:30, FISHER's two hour set was absolute whirlwind.

In true FISHER style, he played all of his bangers and some top notch remixes of classics, including Michael Jacksons' Billie Jean. The crowds were jumping around and FISH looked like he was loving every minute.

After FISHER ended on Losing It, we headed back to the hotel but not before Rich got his photo with Carra. On the way back, I purposely swerved the numerous food temptations, including a McDonalds. Yes, I shocked myself!

Thankfully, our hotel was right around the corner from BCM. Bed was calling and what a comfy one it was.

A change of scenery is welcomed every once and a while, but the White Isle was calling out for our return. Another big night was on the agenda as Pacha celebrates 50 years. Magaluf was a vibe, but I know where my heart lies...

After a quick in-and-out to Mallorca, Lissy Lü is back on holy ground and ready for more misadventures in clubland when she hits Pacha's 50th Anniversary Party and gears up for another weekend of sunshine and dancing. Her next dancefloor diary entry is online now.
