Lissy Lü in real life | Peak season burnout

Misadventures in clubland. July, week four.

Top raver, booth infiltrator and our very own AM to PM girl, Lissy Lübeck is back for summer 2023, sharing her thoughts, experiences and inner musings from Ibiza's clubland. A year older, but a year wiser? Probably not.

If you heard it from anybody else, you'd dismiss it as hyperbole, but Lissy Lü's real life is like that.

Partying as a profession is a hard life... but somebody's got to do it!

Monday 24 July

Waking up feeling fresh from our chilled evening is an unusual sensation. Kind of liked it, not gonna lie.

We had a lovely morning dip, before I decided to take G to the abandoned Festival Club, as she's never been. The weather was also a little bit dodge, so it was a good day to get some touristy things in.

She loved it, exploring all the nooks and crannies. Though I've been many times, I still like going as it's great to take photos and discover art you missed the last time you were there.

Alway worth a visit - the abandoned and eerie Festival Club

We got ready for 21:00 to head to my new favourite japanese restaurant, Okasan which is situated just next door to Skinny Kitchen. Here, we met Sophie and her friend for some pre-game food and cocktails.

The girls ordered some fresh tuna sushi, whilst I went for some gyozas, teriyaki skewers and lots of edamame beans (chef's kiss). It was just as good as I remembered. This is where our night truly began. We warmed up with some of my favourite bangers, including Moxy Edits 001, Hitty's Issa Vibe, as well the new one from The Martinez Brothers and Eliza Rose, Pleasure Peak.

At 02:00 we received a message informing us of a very busy DC10 for Circoloco's 24th anniversary.

Well, it's peak season, what did we expect? Although a little put-off, we didn't let the wind be taken out from our sails and decided to ride into the storm and embrace it, arriving just in time to catch the end of Skepta.

The warning had been accurate. It was horrendously busy. It wasn't until around 05:00 that any space emerged on the dancefloor. I heard &Me and Rampa play my fav tune Les Gout on The Terrace - I tried to muscle in, but I was fighting a losing battle. It wasn't a fun experience.

However, Luciano closing the room salvaged the night. I wish I was in a fit enough state to have Shazam'ed what I saw of him. Proper stinkers!

Wednesday 26 July

An official day off! Feelin' fresh after a solid sleep and a takeaway, G and I decided to seize the day and make the most of the gorgeous weather. Our first stop of the day was Kick for my usual hash stacker, which includes homemade rostis, avocado salsa, sausages and feta.

Realising I didn't put my phone on charge the night before, I dropped in at the Chino shop to buy a USB iPhone charger for the car. Spending €4 on a charger meant I managed to get to about 6 per cent battery before arriving at Cala Tarida beach. Great.

We're in peak season and the playa was absolutely chockablock. We walked from one side of the beach to the other, asking various sunbed vendors if they had two spare. Cotton Club and all of the others were fully sold out so we set up our towels on the sand near Chiringuito.

It was a scorcher, so multiple dips in and out of the sea were needed. We made friends with a toddler who was the cutest little man I've ever seen. His mum couldn't quite believe how much he took to us. He was just smiling at us the whole day.

It's a weird luxury not having any battery on your phone, it meant I could fully disconnect and zone out. We had a little siesta on the beach until 19:00, before heading home.

We didn't get to chill out for long. After showering off what seemed like half the beach, we got ready for a night at Paradise. Rio had just landed which meant he was of course up for going out. We hadn't planned on having a heavy one, but you know how things go...

We arrived at Amnesia for around 00:30 after a few cocktails at Mudita.

Having just missed Max Dean's Terrace debut, we arrived to find Archie Hamilton absolutely killing it. Later, we headed into the main room to catch a bit of Alisha. Too busy socialising, we missed ANOTR, which we realised as soon we heard Relax My Eyes radiating up to the rooftop.

We called it a night just after 03:00 and headed back to the villa. A lovely surprise, Hayley and Steve were still up and sat at the pool drinking. This is becoming a regular occurrence. Lots of wine and deep chats later, we all headed for our own beds around 06:00.

Thursday 27 July

Brunch was taken at Skinny Kitchen, where we drank our bodyweight in fresh juices, sparkling water and coca cola in the hope it would revitalise us. Planned for months, Patrick Nazemi had arranged a table for us at Ibiza Rocks to see D-Block Europe.

We hit Rocks around 19:30, having been advised of an 20:00 start for the rap duo.

You know how it goes, things rarely run to schedule. It was around 21:30 that they finally came on stage, which was the time our dinner reservations at Pikes was meant to start. We stayed for three of their songs, which we had a lovely little sing-along to.

I've never seen Rocks so busy as it was today. The British crowd was in full force and was as excitable as ever. Metre high bottles of Grey Goose, colour coordinated fits and old school bangers brought on by hype man Ryan Aaron, as well as a warm up from Clavish.

We had to make a sharp exit over to Pikes for our dinner with the Radio 1 gang. They had all just landed ahead of weekend and everyone was in high spirits. I indulged in the lamb and beans dish, whilst Gunter went for, well… multiple cocktails.

I made the executive decision to call it a night around 00:30 as the weekend ahead is going to be HECTIC. Though we had all had a few cocktails and were enjoying ourselves, everyone would be thankful for my sensible head the next morning.
