Location: 10 minutes drive from San Miguel
Facilities: Loungers, parasols, showers (turned off to save water), restaurants, bars, beach boutique, hippy market, lifeguards
Size: 160 metres long, 40 metres wide
Getting there: Reached by car, follow signposts from San Miguel. There are two car parks (free of charge) with a capacity of 400 cars. In summer these fill up quickly, we recommend to come early. From beginning of June till end of September, from late afternoon till midnight, on Sundays a bus connects from the parking Sa Plana (Google maps) in San Juan to Cala Benirrás (find bus timetables here).

The beach

A beautiful approach, meandering down through hills and valleys, brings you to the beach of Cala Benirrás. It is a pretty beach of partly pebbly sand, with rocks on either side that you can clamber over, and a picturesque view across the water to an interesting rock formation known as Cap Bernat (or referred to locals as 'the finger of God'). The sea bed is rocky which makes it excellent for snorkellers but not so easy to walk into... but that's all part of the fun! The water is crystal clear.

In summer there is a small hippy market every day apart from Wednesdays and Thursdays from late morning till evening, with stands selling fashion, accessories, craftwork, and more.

This sheltered bay is a popular anchoring spot for private yachts and motor boats that gather in the late afternoon to enjoy the romantic sundown.

Spotlight tip

The famous drumming that used to take place on Sundays, attracting thousands of people, no longer happens; however, smaller informal drumming sessions take place now every day at sunset.

Beach bars and restaurants

There are several restaurants on the beach serving Mediterranean and, specifically, Italian fare, a cool beach club, and a cosy eatery serving pizzas and other snacks.

Nearby accommodation

The nearest resort is Puerto de San Miguel with a small choice of hotels and apartments.

The beautiful north of the island also offers a great choice of holiday villas, small havens of relaxation with their own pool, perfect for families and groups.
