Like all Ibiza villages, San Rafael (Sant Rafel in Catalan) is dominated by a late 18th century church with amazing views all the way down to Ibiza Town, where you can see the castle and the harbour, busy with cruise ships and big ferries. If open, have a look inside the church, it is really beautiful.
Restaurants
Foodies can experience culinary delights at a string of bars and restaurants which serve both typical local cuisine and more exotic concoctions from the Mediterranean, and even Asian regions.
Ceramics and pottery
San Rafael was once known for its pottery workshops, with national and internationally renowned artists working there. Therefore, it has been declared the only artisan zone – Zona de Interés Artesanal - on Ibiza. Nowadays only one of the shops remains selling beautiful handmade ceramics and pottery, Can Kinoto on the western end of the main road.
But you can still find several large roadside shops spread across the island with a great offer of ceramics and pottery.
Craft market
Every Thursday evening from end of June to mid September there is a craft market in the church square of San Rafael. Only real artisans are allowed to display and sell their work. There are ceramics in traditional and contemporary designs on offer, as well as many other interesting, locally made products.
There is also regular live music and folk dancing.
Fiesta in San Rafael
On the 24th of October and in the weeks surrounding the date, the village celebrates its Patron Saint’s day with a small fair and events.
