Album review
ANOTR have been on an absolute rocket ride over the past few years. They've gone from Tech House underdogs to one of the biggest names in electronic music. When they first came to prominence, the duo quickly establishing a strong club-focused, underground sound.
However, by 2020, a noticeable sonic shift began to emerge. More melody, texture and emotion were introduced to their productions. Suddenly, ANOTR were getting known for their songwriting as much as their beats. Shortly after came The Reset, the album that changed everything.
Since then, ANOTR have been playing to packed crowds across the world. This included some money-spinning headline shows on Ibiza at Pacha and 528.

After a lifechanging few years, the duo kick-off 2025 with their second studio album On A Trip - their most experimental project yet.
Inspired by psychedelic-fueled retreats in LA, the Netherlands and Ibiza, the album blends all of Indie Dance, Disco, Alt-Soul and even Krautrock, pushing their sound even further away from their Tech House roots. The big question is, can it top The Reset? The bar is high.
From the outset, On A Trip feels transcendental. The opening track Unlock sets the tone with hypnotic guitar strings and rhythmic synths, drawing listeners into a kaleidoscope of sound. It's a consciously powerful instrumental.

ANOTR have previously incorporated live drumming into their sets, such as at 528 Ibiza in 2023
ANOTR have always had a knack for working with vocalists who create memorable lyrics that take their hits to the next level, but this time, they've taken matters into their own hands - literally. For the first time, they step up to the mic themselves. This is first heard on Care For You.
The second track on the LP is a far cry from a club banger. It's mellow, downtempo groove embraces live instrumentation. This is the definition of a summer 2025 chill-out anthem - the kind of track made for long drives, sunset walks and poolside lounging. Leaning into the Alt-Soul realm, its deeply emotive vocal performance lays the groundwork for the rest of the album.
Then comes one of the album's heavy hitters.
For me (and thousands of others), How You Feel was the ultimate summer anthem in 2024. When I think of ANOTR's current output, this track sums up their sound perfectly: blissful melodies radiating feel-good energy.
The same can be said for 24 (Turn It Up), another anthem-in-waiting that the duo chose to share prior to dropping the album.
Currency (Count On Me) features GRAMMY-nominated Cuban artist Cimafunk and PAMÉ. Blending funk-infused basslines with soul-driven vocals, it's symptomatic of the album's eclecticism. Could this be the track of summer 2025? It's certainly a contender.
Things take a deeper dive with Living In A Dream and SET IT ON FIRE. The latter is an especially bold moment, as ANOTR put their own vocals front and centre. It's a gutsy move that pays off, adding raw authenticity.
Meanwhile, Don't Understand Ya featuring Tyler Daley further showcases the album's global appeal, blending genres in a way only ANOTR can. Bad Trip takes a more introspective turn, capturing the highs and lows of a mind navigating a psychoactive state.
I'm always drawn to tracks with a touch of African influence and Falling Feels Like Flying brings a fresh dimension to the album, whilst retaining ANOTR's signature groove. In an album full of obvious hits, this one really jumps out.
With the exception of closing track 6AM, the latter third of On A Trip takes a niche turn. Far from the usual peak-time DC10 energy, it delves into a sound palette that we haven't previously encountered from ANOTR.
6AM itself gives pure RoMinimal energy. This song quickly transports me to Sunwaves festival, lost in the music at sunrise as daylight creeps in.
A perfect ending to a trip worth taking.
