Situated approximately five kilometres, or just a ten minute drive away from San Carlos lies one of Ibiza's smallest and most peaceful coves…the beautiful Pou des Lleo.
Popular with the locals, this beach is idyllic for those seeking tranquility as, even in the high season, it remains relatively quiet.
A sheltered horse-shoe shaped cove, surrounded by a rugged coastline with dramatic rock formations, red cliffs and lush green pine woods, Pou des Lleo, with its mixture of fine, soft sand and pebbles, still has the feel of a fishing port due to the typical wooden fishermen's boat houses on each side of the beach. This is one of Ibiza's most untouched environments, where it is not unusual for people to sunbathe in the nude.
Translating as "Well of the Lion", Pou des Lleo boasts spectacular views of the island of Tagomago, and is located within walking distance of the Torre d'en Valls, one of the lookout towers built to warn island inhabitants of incoming pirate raids.
The picturesque surrounding countryside is a favourite with walkers, and the crystalline, turquoise water, and unusual rock formations make it perfect for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
At only 60 metres long and 15 metres wide, Pou des Lleo is very small compared to other beaches on Ibiza, but is easily reached by car or bicycle simply by following the signposts from San Carlos.
There is access for the disabled, toilets and a shower, and sun loungers and parasols are available for hire.
You can enjoy a reasonably-priced drink or snack at the chiringuito (beach bar) which is a hangout for locals and savvy holidaymakers.

Fish enthusiasts should head for Can Salvado - continue on the dirt track past the beach for two hundred metres. Meanwhile, Pou des Lleo Hostal - situated on the left just before descending to the beach - offers traditional Ibizan fare including paella.
For a day of sheer relaxation, surrounded by beautiful views and a laid-back ambience, Pou des Lleo ticks all the boxes.
