Tunes of the month | January

Our favourite tracks from December.

2022 has been a doozy! It will forever be remembered as the year unrestricted clubbing returned and Ibiza came back in a big way. All good things must come to an end and we now look forward with earnest to the next 12 months.

Before we tuck into our New Year's schedule, we've got one last spin of the dice on the release front. Here are the ten tracks from December we've been feeling the most.

Wherever you are and whoever you're with when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve, have a good one. We look forward to welcoming you back to Ibiza in summer.

Right, now how about those tunes...

Alok & Sigala feat Ellie Goulding | All By Myself | B1 Recordings | 12 December

Hï Ibiza's Brazilian sensation Alok and Sigala, who held court at Eden with Sigalaland earlier this summer, join forces with popstar Ellie Goulding on All By Myself. Raising money for deaf charity RNID, the track samples Enjoy The Silence in a rare approved clearance by Depeche Mode.

House heads should check-out the remix from the ever-dependable Paul Woolford.

PAWSA | Hendrix Flow | SG Raw | 30 December

Solid Grooves soldier PAWSA follows-up the year-defining Room Service, with another groovy cut in Hendrix Flow. Fusing wayward sax riffs, bassy licks and a distorted vocal, the track is a signature PAWSA production delivered on the cusp of 2023.

The coolest cat in town has done it again.

Icarus | Forever (AmyElle Remix) | FlyBoy Records | 16 December

Rhythmic drum patterns, deep bass and atmospheric organ stabs underpin AmyElle's brooding remix to Forever by Icarus. Weaving the original vocal across melodic synth hooks, the remixer creates a Progressive floorfiller on FlyBoy Records. It's another solid entry from AmyElle.

JAMIIE | Unfold Me | Watergate Records | 9 December

Watergate resident DJ JAMIIE gets a debut solo EP on the club's label arm. Unfold Me is a glorious end-of-night track where grandiose synths rub shoulders with rumbling bass, before a delicate interlude gives JAMIIE the opportunity to build the energy right back up again.

File this one under: "Future Afro House."

Vintage Culture | Fractions | Tomorrowland Music | 2 December

Wednesday night Club Room host Vintage Culture wraps up the biggest year of his career with a new EP on Tomorrowland Music. With rising tension throughout the track and a drop capable of scrambling brains, Fractions is a powerful, instrumental dancefloor weapon.

HoneyLuv feat Dope Earth Alien | Sway | Insomniac Records | 9 December

Following-up her breakout hit 365, HoneyLuv returns with Sway, a frisky Tech House cut filled with bouncing basslines and crisp drums. Refreshingly flirty and instantly infectious, the track features Toronto-born singer-songwriter Dope Earth Alien. We're fans.

Eliot Sumner & Ben Frost | White Rabbit | Invada Records | 8 December

Composer and electronic music producer Eliot Sumner, perhaps better known as Afterlife's Vaal, teams up with experimental artist Ben Frost here. Released under her own name and used as the score to Netflix's 1899, White Rabbit is a cover of the 1967 Jefferson Airplane classic.

Yulia Niko feat EREZ | I'm Everything | Get Physical | 21 December

Get Physical welcomes Yulia Niko back to the label for our next entry. I'm Everything is a warm track with layered snares and deep kicks. EREZ's stylised vocal brings bittersweet emotions as it drifts alongside uplifting chord progressions, bringing a diffused late-night energy.

Mafro | Hollow | Virgin Music | 2 December

Next tune Hollow sees emerging UK talent Mafro pair poignant lyrics with tight production. Inspired by James Blake, Tourist, and Jon Hopkins, Mafro is a versatile musician you may recall as a featured artist on TSHA's Capricorn Sun, our 2022 album of the year.

The full EP is out in mid January.

John Summit | Revolution | Off The Grid | 26 December

In 2022, John Summit doubled-down on his commitments to great production, social media tomfoolery and turning after party sessions into a competitive sport. He closes his account for the year on his own Off The Grid label - and, nope, he isn't ducking out quietly.

With a heavier duty sound than we've become used to from the young Chicago producer, Revolution comes equipped with full-throttle bass, industrial drums and a surplus of acid. John Summit's revolution is in full effect. 2023 doesn't look safe either.

Make sure you check-out our album of the month from the one and only Carl Cox, as well as our album of the year by TSHA.
