Luciano & Nic Fanciulli lead conversation on island sustainability

The rhythm of the planet at the inaugural Ibiza Global Festival.

Back in the peak of July 2022, music fanatics from all over the island descended on San Antonio for what was a very important discussion regarding sustainability. Ibiza Global Radio threw the Balearics' very first eco-conscious festival.

The first of its kind, the pioneering Ibiza Global Festival featured a varied line-up of international DJs and live artists across two stages. Leading the way were two of electronic music's most visible DJs, Luciano and Nic Fanciulli.

With over 20,000 attendees gathering on S'Arenal beach, the free two-day festival aimed to shed light on the importance of sustainability on the island. Ibiza's unique natural beauty deserves to be preserved and looked after as best as possible.

The festival marked a rare opportunity for attendees to dance on the beach, typical of Ibiza parties of the '90s and reminding people of the true bohemian spirit.

"Anything that connects you to nature will make you feel more grounded and the music always sounds better in the open air.

Sustainability is very important to me. I have a foundation called One Coin For Life, which I have been doing for years. Protecting indigenous people and tribes is a cause very close to my heart.

To connect with your surroundings and protect them – even if it is just a small stretch of sand – is something I am always trying to do."

“I had an amazing time. It was good to be part of a free event on the island. The beach brings out a different energy in people than you get from clubs or festivals and I certainly felt it that night.

We all can make a difference no matter how small the gesture may seem. Every contribution we make helps."

- Nic Fanciulli

The event had huge backing from a mix of high-profile sponsors including Pioneer and Funktion One, as well as event partners O Beach, Ibiza Rocks and Amistat Island Hostel Ibiza. It was also strongly supported by local government institutions.

The crowds included locals, tourists and even parents with their children. Using the tag line, the rhythm of the planet, we hope Ibiza Global Festival's message was delivered to all who attended.

Following on from the successful event, the Ibiza Global team is already planning more activities both locally and on an international scale. Expect to see more from Ibiza Global Festival and its sustainability partnerships in 2023. Watch this space.

Sustainability is something we all need to be thinking about more, whether living on or visiting the island.
